Help sharks by giving time

The time and skills that volunteers dedicate are extremely valuable to the Trust. There are a variety of ways that you can help by contributing your own unique skills to shark conservation. From writing reports and articles to taking photographs, contributing to our online database and helping with mail outs, we welcome everyone to get involved.

Current volunteering opportunities include:

 Outreach Events

The Shark Trust attends many outreach events and exhibitions each year, if you would like to come along and help out, you will be very welcome. Take a look at the upcoming events in the events section and contact the Trust if you would like to help out. If you are interested in hosting a Shark Trust event then please contact us with your ideas.

The Great Eggcase Hunt

In recent decades several species of skate and ray around the British coast have dramatically declined in numbers. The empty eggcases that wash up on to our beaches all year round are an easily accessible source of information on the whereabouts of skate and ray nursery grounds. The identification of these critical areas will enable the Shark Trust to propose conservation measures.

You can help by organising eggcase hunts in your local area and reporting your findings on our website. We would also love to receive any eggcases of images or eggcases you find.

Rock Salmon

You can get involved in our rock salmon campaign and survey your local fish and chip shops and seafood restaurants to see if they are selling rock salmon, skate or huss and send us your results.

The Shark Trust promotes the study, management and conservation of sharks, skates and rays. The Shark Trust is the UK member of the European Elasmobranch Association. As such, it collaborates with other national member bodies to achieve their aims in British, European and international waters. The Trust aims to join forces with other groups concerned with shark, skate and ray conservation issues. These include commercial fisherman, recreational sea anglers, divers, yachtsmen, and all those who want to ensure the future survival of these fascinating but threatened animals.
